 Christ is risen!

Christ is risen! The Christian world rejoices today as the most joyous of all feasts, the resurrection of Christ, is celebrated. The resurrection confirms the unique process of salvation "so that they may have life and live it to the full."

The jubilant pealing of church bells throughout Christendom during the Easter Vigil last night as the choir chanted "Gloria" heralded the resurrection of Christ more than 20 centuries ago. Religious rites in all churches were full of allusions to the resurrection of our Lord - His triumph over death and on the cross as He comes forth victoriously from the gloom of death.

From the lowly chapels in the hinterlands to the cathedrals in the metropolis, the ringing of the bells will announce the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today, Easter Sunday, altars will glitter with golden ornamental and colorful flowers as priests and ministers sing the joyful alleluias to honor the risen Christ.

At 10 last night at the St. Joseph Cathedral, Bishop Leonardo Y. Medroso and Bishop Christian Vincent Noel of the diocese of Tagbilaran and Talibon, respectively, presided during the Paschal Vigil rites, which is one of the most symbolic in the liturgical treasury of the Catholic church. It started off with the blessing of the New Fire, followed immediately by the blessing of the Paschal Candle.

After the midnight mass, the traditional sugat immediately took place when the men and the women, from different directions, converged at the Cathedral. The images of the Resurrection and the Dolorosa led the two groups which converged at the potre-cochere.
