 "WARM Chatto heats Bohol"

Congressman Edgar M. Chatto broke his silence recently regarding his political plans for 2010 in response to queries from the media and the general public regarding his consistent topping in surveys for the gubernatorial post of Bohol conducted by various survey groups.

Chatto politely said he is "willing, able, ready and moving" (WARM) to take the challenge of leading the province at the end of Governor Erico Aumentado's term if given the chance by our fellow Boholanos. He was quick in explaining that political decisions for the 2010 will of course consider party processes and discussions as he strongly advocates for the strengthening of party systems in the country to ensure more mature democratic space in our politics.

In his third and final term in Congress, Chatto said that he is very grateful and thankful to the Boholano electorate who have strongly supported his public service career through the years as he rose steadily from his seat in the Provincial Board of Bohol as ex officio member representing the Kabataang Barangay (now Sangguniang Kabataan) while he was still 19 years old to his being elected Mayor of Balilihan in 1988, Vice Governor of Bohol in 1995 and Congressman in 2001.

My decisions on what positions to aspire for always anchor on what the people expect me to become so I can serve them better. Discernment of what God wants me to do is the most challenging part, Cong. Chatto added.

When asked what programs he thinks Bohol should have after 2010, Chatto stressed that sustaining the momentum of Bohol's growth and development under the administration of Gov Aumentado is a challenge any leader should meet head on if given the noble task of heading the province. Health, Education & Environment, Agriculture, Tourism, Sports and Youth (HEATS) should be given focus while we stress on strong investment promotions and job creation strategies to enhance the present poverty alleviation measures our people need so much.

Making jobs accessible to young Boholanos here at home has always been our collective dream. We have achieved a certain degree of success on this now with our twin visions of becoming a prime eco-cultural tourism destination and a balanced agro-industrial province, Chatto said.

But we need to do even better in the near future, he explained. Entrepreneurship among our youth must likewise be promoted while both the government and the private sectors are also trying their best to provide jobs to all those who want to work. This is a tall order, but this is realizable given our right attitude and our unity of purpose as a people, Chatto concluded.

It may be noted that SWS trained HNU Research Center survey last year showed Chatto, Herrera and Relampagos on top of the names voted by respondents for the position of Governor.

DYRD's Radio Merkado Survey named Chatto as most liked for the position of Governor.

Far second is movie actor Cesar Montano followed by Vice Gov. Julius Herrera.

The most recent global internet survey among Boholanos in TubagBohol.com picked Chatto as the leading gubernatorial choice with 61.4% of the respondents voting in his favor.

Far second is Mayor Dan Lim with 14.8% followed by Vice Gov. Julius Herrera with 9.1%.
