  PBA All-Star starters named
 

Four former stalwarts of the RP men's team to the FIBA-Asia Olympic quaflying tournament will suit up as starters in the coming PBA All-Star weekend when they get to size up members of the Powerade Team Pilipinas in an exciting three-game series 10 days from now.

Danny Seigle, Eric Menk, Dondon Hontiveros and Jimmy Alapag comprise

the starting unit for the South team as voted by fans during the month-long balloting conducted by the league on game days and out-of-town matches.

   

The four star players suited up for the RP men's team of coach Chot Reyes when it finished a fighting ninth during the 2007 FIBA-Asia Men's basketball championship in Tokushima, Japan, the tournament that served as qualifying meet for the Beijing Olympics.

Jay Washington completes the first five of the South team to be handled by coach Tim Cone.

The North squad, meanwhile, will have the quintet of Marc Pingris, Lordy Tugade, Enrico Villanueva, Paul Artadi and MacMac Cardona playing for coach Chot Reyes.

Both teams are set to play the RP men's squad under coach Yeng Guiao from April 22 to 26 in a three-game exhibition matches that serves as part of the nationals' training and preparation for the 2009 FIBA-Asia meet in China, the tournament being the qualifier for next year's World Basketball Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.

Hontiveros got the most number of fan votes with 38,044 followed by Washington (32,372), Seigle (32,048), Alapag (31,482) and Pingris (30,086).

Reserve players of both North and South will be selected by the rest of the PBA coaches. Commissioner Sonny Barrios will also handpick four imports to reinforce the two All-Star units.
