2 charges vs. city mayor, 8 others at Ombudsman

Two related complaints were filed at the Ombudsman on Friday against Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim and eight other city officials for failure to liquidate cash advances and violations of the code of conduct and ethical standards of public officials and employees.

In his public pronouncements, the city mayor frequently challenged his critics to file charges against him. He even bragged of striking down the charges even before it could land "first base."

law for Pinoy youth

Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed into law the expanded Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) to the applause of over 4,000 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leaders holding their national convention at the Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) Gym on Wednesday.

The president hailed Republic Act 9547, principally authored by Rep. Edgar Chatto in the House of Representatives, as bringing "integrity to literacy" since providing the students vacation jobs to sustain their schooling is a decent means to pursue education.

ZAMBOANGA CITY. Governor Abdusakur Tan of Sulu yesterday issued an ultimatum to the Abu Sayyaf to release the two remaining workers of the International Committee of the Red Cross that it is holding hostage.

"Better release the hostages immediately otherwise, or else, they know what will happen to them next," Tan said, without elaborating.
