City Judges ruled out of Agora case

 

Some 400 depositors of Pilipino Rural Bank (PRBank) Tagbilaran Branch will finally have their chance to air their concerns as they meet two top officials of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) at the Bohol Cultural Center, this city, tomorrow.

PDIC Executive Vice President Imelda Singson and Vice President for Comptrollership Geronimo Ambe have confirmed their presence in tomorrow's meeting.

The two PDIC officials were asked by Gov. Erico Aumentado to visit Bohol after depositors of the closed rural bank expressed concern over the delay in processing their claims on insured deposits.

THE WORLD BANK
"WALKS THE TALK"

 

The World Bank, a major funder of the country's Foreign-Assisted Projects, declared RP as "one of the most corrupt nations in the world" sometime ago. Today, it is "walking the talk" by banning seven contractors in WB-funded projects.

Now a World Bank official assures senator Nene Pimentel to provide evidence to nail the fraudulent and collusive practices of these contractors, including three Filipino names: E.C. de Luna Construction Corporation (permanent ban), Cavite Ideal Construction and Development Corporation and CM Pancho Construction Corporation (suspension). Seven of them (including four Chinese firms) conspired to lord it over 27% of the infrastructure contracts between 2002-2006. FULL TEXT

MANILA. It was a rude baptism of fire for the Japanese contractor. Right before him, "(They) first discussed bribes. They had a rough approach." From that meeting, it was impressed on him that "(bribe) money was important to do business in the Philippines."

This was how the Japanese contractor described his meeting with First Gentleman Miguel "Mike" Arroyo and a former senator to World Bank investigators who looked into alleged collusion and rigging in the Bank's funded road projects.
