DENR: 55 garbage
dumpsites illegal

Unknown to many, there are still 55 open garbage dumpsites "illegally operating" in the province despite warnings issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its closure.

Although the DENR is closely monitoring these dumpsites, the biggest of which is the city dumpsite in barangay Dampas, the local government units should still be at the forefront of adopting means to eliminate open dumping of garbage. FULL STORY

'Dream' polls promised;
100% accuracy vowed

MANILA. With the poll automation project back on track, Smartmatic International has pledged a dream scenario for the May 2010 national elections.

In an interview Friday, Smartmatic spokesperson Cezar Flores said "over 90 percent" of the election results would be in "within the first six hours after closing time." He said the voting machines would have "100-percent accuracy," and that in two or three days, the winners of nationwide contests could be proclaimed. FULL STORY
