25 town mayors
reverts to lakas

 Bohol's political waters went into complete disarray when 25 administration mayors, just converted into the NP (Nacionalista Party) last week, swore in back as Lakas-Kampi members Friday before provincial political stalwart Gov. Erico Aumentado.

The NP conversion earlier shook the political equation as this swung the majority control of Bohol's 47 towns into the Nacionalista Party.

Boom recovering; Vows return soon


WBO Intercontinental superbantamweight champion Rey (Boom Boom) Bautista is still recuperating from surgery to repair a fractured left wrist but ALA Gym owner Tony Aldeguer said yesterday he expects the hard-hitting brawler to return to the ring before the year ends.

In a startling disclosure, Aldeguer revealed that Bautista hurt his left hand even before he fought Mexico's Daniel Ponce de Leon for the WBO 122-pound title two years ago and endured the pain in his next four fights until finally submitting to surgery. FULL STORY

Baconas unites sectors vs. contituents assembly

A multi-sectoral group formed the Boholanos Against Constituent Assembly (BACONAS) to seal a concerted effort to oppose the passage of House Resolution 1109 which, if approved will allow the convening of a constituent assembly.

Msgr. Junix Nalzaro and Atty. Raul Barbarona were elected as interim chairman and co-chairman of the group during a well-attended organizational meeting held at the Sayas Restaurant last Tuesday. FULL STORY

COTABATO CITY. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will definitely step down in 2010 and run for Congress in her home province of Pampanga, a Cabinet official said Friday.

Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman gave this apparently categorical statement on Ms Arroyo's political plans when he spoke to reporters at the sidelines of the Independence Day celebrations in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), where he was a guest speaker.
