Political positioning
awaits GMA's approval

With the early filing of certificates of candidacy set on Nov. 30 due to the automation of next year's elections, the local political pot starts to sizzle with the administration bloc facing the dilemma on how to accommodate each contender particularly in the gubernatorial and congressional levels.

Gov. Erico Aumentado together with Vice Gov. Julius Herrera, Rep. Edgar Chatto, Rep. Roberto Cajes, Rep. Adam Jala and DOTC Asst Sec. Eladio Jala met with Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Palace last Thursday afternoon and openly discussed the possible "hitches" in choosing the official administration candidates.

The President simply listened to the Bohol situationer as discussed by her local political lieutenants.

The governor as provincial chairman of the Lakas-CMD is now starting to strategize how these squabbles among administration bets can be resolved. In fact, the governor will have to resolve first his "anointed" gubernatorial bet, which is a choice between Vice Gov. Herrera and Rep. Chatto, both Lakas-CMD.

The other area of concern to be resolved is the party's choice between former Rep. Eladio Jala and DA Secretary Arthur Yap, after the latter filed his voter's registration in barangay Buenavista, Loboc town last Wednesday.

Yap's transfer of his voter's registration from Manila to Loboc town, seem to confirm earlier reports that the agri secretary who is a Boholano by affinity is eyeing to run for congressman in the third district. He is married to the daughter of Annie Gow, a native of Loboc town.

Aumentado who is returning to his second congressional seat after serving 9 years as governor might also be contested by Trinidad Mayor Judith Cajes. wife of the last termer congressman Roberto Cajes. Reports from political quarters bared that the only way to stop Mrs. Cajes from running against Aumentado is to accommodate the solon as the anointed bet for governor.

Unlike in the third district, no names have surfaced as possible administration candidate for congressman in the first district to succeed Rep. Chattto who is now serving his last term. BM Yul Lopez surfaced as having been courted by the opposition to run for congressman in the first district.

Reports reaching the Chronicle bared that negotiations remain open for Herrera to slide down to Congress, instead of running against Chatto in the gubernatorial race.

However, public pronouncements issued by Herrera indicate that his gubernatorial ambition is non-negotiable.

The jockeying for administration bets will be a tall order for the governor to decide since it is expected that there will be more than one administration line up in every municipality.

Aumentado who is known to be closely identified with both Pres. Arroyo and Senator Manny Villar will likewise have to pick his presidential bet as the registration of candidates' certificates draws near.

Once the governor will announce his presidentiable, then it will signal a major political shake-up in the provincial down to the municipal level.

These top political concerns of the administration bloc were heard by the President after the Bohol officials discussed lengthily the remaining major projects in the province including the much awaited construction of the Panglao Bohol International Airport which ground works are slated to commence this September.

The governor who is the regional Lakas-CMD chairman for Visayas told the Chronicle that he will start checking party policies even as political matters are referred by the President to Political Affairs Sec. Gabby Claudio.

VICE GUBERNATORIABLES

Even as Gov. Aumentado remains silent on who gets his anointment for governor, name for possible running mates surface last week.

Most sought after vice gubernatorial timber is BM Concepcion Lim who is presently sitting as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan representing the barangays.

Reports revealed that gubernatorial hopefuls have approached Lim to invite her as their running mate.

When asked by the Chronicle on who is closest to her heart among the gubernatoriables, BM Lim prefers to be "silent for the moment."

Meanwhile, Prov'l Administrator Tomas Abapo, Jr is another possible vice gubernatorial bet who is reportedly getting the endorsement of top Capitol officials.

Reports likewise revealed of a possibility that last termer Rep. Roberto Cajes holds the option of either running for governor or as running mate of Chatto. Cajes is identified with First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.
