Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is confirmed to arrive here on Wednesday to address the launching of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) biggest project this year - the Sama-sama para sa Kalikasan environmental campaign at the Bohol Wisdom gymnasium.

This is the President's first visit to Bohol this year.

Scheduled to receive the President upon her arrival at the Bohol Wisdom gym are SK Federation President and National Youth Council ex-officio Commissioner Jane Censoria del Rosario Cajes, Gov. Erico Aumentado, Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera and Reps. Edgar Chatto, Roberto Cajes and Adam Jala.

The 2009 SK National Convention is one of the most attended gatherings in SK history with over 4,000 delegates from the different provinces, city and municipal federations expected to attend.

The organizers have also invited Bamboo and Nikki Gil who are considered youth ambassadors for the environmental programs and projects to enliven the event and sustain the youth power.

"We wanted to make a difference, and thought about helping to address the problems affecting forests, seas, land and air as our way of helping heal our people and our land," said Cajes.

With the theme "Kabataan: Gabay sa Makakalikasang Aksyon,: with young people at the forefront of the campaign, the Sama-Sama para sa Kalikasan is being likened to rebirth in the Philippines.

"We hope we can touch the hearts and minds of the youth that they can take care of the environment and they can make a difference," continued Cajes.

A manifesto of support of SK's commitment towards the president's advocacy of Green Philippines will be given to the President by Cajes before Pres. Arroyo delivers her speech of the day.

Spearheaded by he SK president, this year's congress is supported by the SK National Executive Board.

"Youth will work to ensure that all youth have equal and fair access to a healthy environment," Cajes added.

It can be noted that President Macapagal-Arroyo also served as the keynote speaker for the closing ceremony of the 2008 Sangguniang Kabataan National Congress on October 28-30, 2008 in Cebu City.

On the ongoing drive for the Green Philippines, the President asked the delegates to join hands with the government in its effort to revive the forests and replenish trees in order to protect the country's land and the future generation.

She explained that she wants to tap the youth because they have charm and enthusiasm and are true partners of the government in the Green Philippines campaign.

She also lauded them for making the 2008 SK National Congress the most attended since 1992.

After her speech, the President turned over a check for P10 million to the SK national federation. To serve as equity for the projects of the organization as approved by the SK council.

Every year, the Sangguniang Kabataan congress aims to provide a venue for airing SK issues and concerns, information dissemination of existing policies, programs and projects of the government for the youth, and officially launch the different programs and projects of the SK National Federation.

President Macapagal-Arroyo called on our youth to respond and bring new innovative thinking to land management, care for our environment and ways to create jobs and have a clean, socially responsible environmental policy. The president also stressed the importance of high-spirited, resourceful and innovative youth in a young progressing nation.
