The General Santos lefty took the honors for his outstanding wins last year which included victories over Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz and Oscar De la Hoya.

Pacquiao's famous trainer Freddie Roach also shared the limelight as he was chosen to receive the Futch-Condon award for "Trainer of the Year." Roach previously won this award in both 2003 and 2006.

The 84th Boxing Writers Association of America's annual awards dinner will be held June 12, 2009 at the Capitale in New York City, N.Y.
