CV
gears up for Palaro 2009 BOHOL
SOCCER TEAM members flank Rep. Edgar Chatto whom they thank for supporting
their one more bid for the national football championship in Cebu City next month.
Thru the congressman, the team also secured the support of no less than Philippine
Sports Commission Chairman Harry Angping. | | Dumaguete
City - The Central Visayas Athletics Association (CVIRAA) Meet 2009 officially
ended Sunday in an organized and simple ceremony at the Lamberto Macias Sports
and Cultural Complex.
The
conclusion of the multi-event was well attended by the different school division
heads and athletes coming from the 19 divisions of Central Visayas.
Team
Cebu City emerged at the top after the week-long event, which determines the representatives
for Central Visayas in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa on April 26 to May 2 in
Tacloban City. |
Central
Visayas will be made up of athletes from Team Cebu City, Cebu Province, Mandaue
City, Dumaguete City and Bohol. These athletes will start their rigid training
after the Holy Week.
However,
Central Visayas' bid to clinch the overall title in this prestigious sporting
event will still be a tough task, according to Cebu City Education Consultant
Joy Young.
"I
think it's a matter of putting our heads together," Young said, who went
to Dumaguete City to check the rubberized oval track of the Gov. Marianno Perdices
Memorial Coliseum per instruction of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
He
added that it has been a frustration for Central Visayas because it always lands
either at third or fourth place.
| | | He
said to fix this, they are planning to form a committee which will look at the
strengths and weaknesses of each division.
"For
example in Dumaguete City, several years they have been fielding gold medalist
in archery. With that, we will do our best on how we can help the team sustain
it especially in terms of their training and other needs," Young said.
Palarong
Pambansa Regional screening chairman and Physical Education and School Sports
(PESS) assistant chief Danilo Villadolid is also optimistic about their goal of
being united in order to put Central Visayas on top. | "It's
still an ambition for us (Central Visayas) to top the Palarong Pambansa but there
is nothing wrong to aim high," Villadolid said.
"Kung
abilidad atong storyahan, our athletes kay same ra sa mga athletes sa NCR but
difference lang gyud kay ilang extreme exposure sa competitive sports," Dr.
Villadolid said.
He
said one of major factor that CV will have to look into is to consider putting
up sports psychology and medicine clinics, which NCR has done for several years.
Dr.
Villadolid said it will surely help the athletes because he believes they should
not only be physically and mentally trained but as well emotionally.
"Dili
baya gyud na mawala sa athletes nga ma intimidate and makulbaan."
Young
said that the suggestions are all taken into consideration but as of now, they
cannot include it yet with their planning for the 2009 edition. He said they might
tackle this for the 2010 meet. He added that as of now, their long term plan is
to put up a school which focuses on sports.
Cebu
Provincie climbed up to second place after collecting a total of 253.5 points
in the elementary and 230.30 in the secondary division.
They
won in after secondary football and chess. Cebu Province also defeated Bogo City
in the boys secondary volleyball competition at the Don Bosco volleyball courts.
Securing
the third spot is host team Dumaguete City with 289.92 points.
Mandaue
City's boxers snatched two gold medals in the secondary boxing actions behind
the triumphs of Lorenzo Michael Romarate and Banden Tabares.
Securing
the fifth place is Bohol province, accumulating a total of228.09 points.
