Guv, mayor showdown


Nothing would have averted the collision between the governor and the city mayor as their verbal tussle over the stench coming from the city drainage system and the looming pollution this will bring to Tagbilaran seawaters led to laying down their public office on the line.

In trying to challenge the city mayor to "act now" and build a wastewater treatment plant to erase the shameful tag of a "stinking city", Gov. Erico Aumentado said he expects the facility to be completed in one year and it should not be compared to the construction of the Panglao Bohol International Airport .

If indeed the "fabled" (as in Aesop's Fables) waste water treatment facility of the City Mayor can only be finished after a year, the Governor has reasons to worry.

Because, at best, the 3-year old "dream" of the City Mayor could be finished during or after the May 2010 elections for which the City's Top Public Servant had feverishly prepared for - then and now.

Red Cross hostage
release talks fail


MANILA. The fate of International Committee of the Red Cross workers Swiss Andreas Notter, Italian Eugenio Vagni, and Filipino Mary Jean Lacaba now hangs in the balance after government negotiations with the Abu Sayyaf bandit group bogged down late Thursday.

"The government is not moving (or) talking (with the Abu Sayyaf). Malacañang has done nothing. They're leaving it to somebody who is reckless and irresponsible," said Senator Richard Gordon yesterday.

Bohol gets aid from
Australia & Korea


Bohol will implement over P350-million worth of projects in the next four to five years with assistances from the governments of Korea and Australia.

This after Gov. Erico Aumentado will sign Friday separate memorandums of agreement with the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), and Australia through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) in rites to be held in Quezon City.

'Boom' no action
for six months

Filipino boxing prospect Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista will be out of action for the next six months.

The 22-year-old fighter of the famed ALA boxing gym in Cebu recently underwent operation on his left wrist that is expected to sideline him for the next two quarters of the year.

ALA boxing stable president Michael Aldeguer said the operation had to be done now before the injury gets serious.
