'Swine flu' alert status


Amid threats of a global pandemic of the deadly H1N1 virus or swine influenza, the province is now placed on alert status.

In a meeting with Gov. Erico Aumntado last Friday at the People's Mansion, health, agriculture officials and municipal mayors were informed by the governor that "strict quarantine measures in all ports of entry should be imposed".

Pacquiao-Hatton 'battle' today

Four-time world champion and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao will clash today against the British "hitman" Ricky Hatton in "The Battle of East & West," at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tipping the scale in yesterday's weigh in, Pacquiao easily settled at 138 lb. while Hatton stepped on at 140 lb.FULL STORY

Mayors in the province vowed to support the call to crackdown the illegal numbers game swertres here.

Catigbian Mayor Bert Salinas, president of the League of Municipalities (LMP-Bohol chapter) welcomes the pronouncement of the Philippine National Police (PNP) that they will be all-out in their campaign. German constitutional
experts at Metro today

Prof. Dr. Rudolf Dolzer from the University of Bonn will talk on the German experience with constitutional democracy at 5 p.m. today at MetroCentre Hotel, Tagbilaran City.
Dr. Dolzer is a renowned constitutional expert. He served as a foreign policy adviser to former Chancellor, Dr. Helmut Kohl and is the editor-in-chief of the largest commentary on the German Constitution.

MANILA. Health officials yesterday sought at least P90 million in additional funds to buy anti-viral supplies and prevent any outbreak in the Philippines of a deadly new flu virus that has hit at least 11 countries around the world.

YOUNG FEMALE bottlenose dolphin washed ashore at barangay Sta. Cruz, Baclayon town Wednesday. The 100-kilo, 2.2- meter mammal, which was discovered by fishers of said barangay, bore four wounds. Baclayon Mayor Alvin Uy (fourth from left) and town police decided to bury the dolphin after examinations by BEMO staff.
