Occ. joins Alturas Showdown By

Plaridel Central Elementary School and Calamba National High School of Misamis
Occidental are participating in the prestigious Alturas Drum and Bugle Corps Showdown,
scheduled this year at the CPG Sports Complex on November 22.
Mr.
Tony Barros, a drum and bugle corps trainor based in Mindanao, confirmed that
the two schools are joining in Category A to challenge the defending champion
CVSCAFT and compete with the other best corps in Bohol like the Holy Cross Academy
in Tubigon.
Dubbed
as the "greatest show in town", the Alturas Drum and Bugle Corps Showdown
is now on its 22nd year of pitting the best drum and bugle corps not only in the
province of Bohol, but also of other provinces as well. In recent years, contingents
from General Santos City, Zamboanga del Norte, Cagayan de Oro City, Cebu City,
Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Biliran Province, and Southern Leyte had participated
in the Showdown.
The
main highlight of the 24th Anniversary Celebration of Alturas Supermarket, the
Showdown aims to promote goodwill and encourage the development of the youth worthwhile
endeavors as well as hone their potentials in music-related fields.

than a million pesos of cash prizes and allowances are given away in this year's
competition. Aside from the major prizes in each of the three categories, special
awards are also given to the corps adjudged as Best in Production Design, Best
in Instrumentation, Best in Choreography, Best in Rhythm and Dynamics, Best in
Uniform, Best in Discipline, Best in Parade Impact, Best Corps Major, Best Corps
Majorette, Darling of the Crowd, Best in Entertainment, Most Colorful Corps, Best
in Boholano Ambience, Best in Synchronization, and Best in Jingle.
Trophies
are also awarded for the Liveliest Corps, Most Elegant, Best in Projection, Most
Promising Neophyte, Neophyte of the Year, Most Impressive Neophyte, and Most Inspiring
Corps. | The
Alturas Drum & Bugle Corps Showdown is presented in cooperation with the Department
of Education (DepEd). With its educational thrust to inculcate discipline among
young students, aside from giving them the venue for their cultural and musical
talents, DepEd renews its co-sponsorship of the Showdown. Dr. Elpidio M. Jala
had already signed a memorandum that encourages all public schools to participate
in the annual competition.
