accountant to session

A city lawmaker called the city accountant to appear during next Friday's session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod amid public clamor for transparency revolving on the missing vouchers and the P20 million unliquidated cash advances as reported by the Commission on Audit.

Medicine week starts
The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) will mark the annual Medicine Week celebration on September 20-25, 2009 with the holding of simultaneous activities nationwide.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Manggagamot, Mamamayan at Pamahalaan, Nagkakaisa sa Kalusugan."

MANILA. After more than half a century of owning Hacienda Luisita, the Cojuangco-Aquino family may eventually have to "leave" its vast sugar estate in Central Luzon because of the continuing labor troubles that plague it, Senator Benigno Aquino III said yesterday.

Aquino, the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2010 elections, said his family had incurred a large debt as a result of the labor disputes, and that he expected these troubles to continue if it does not relinquish control of the 6,400-hectare estate. FULL STORY
