NPA nabbed in NegOr DUMAGUETE
CITY. A Boholano, suspected to be a top official of the underground New People's
Army (NPA) was cornered and arrested in a barangay in Dawin town, south of Negros.
Forty-year
old Florencio Quiño, a native of Balilihan, Bohol was turned over to the
responding policemen by residents following a brief chase. | | QUINO |

authorities later learned that Quiño is wanted in the province of Bohol
and has two standing warrants of arrest issued by Judge Pacito Yape for illegal
possession of firearms, issued Feb. 8, 1998 and for murder, issued in September
1998 with no bail bond recommended.
The
Negros Oriental Police Provincial Director, SSupt. Augusto Marquez Jr., who is
also a provincial commander before of Bohol, identified Quiño as a finance
officer of Platoon Doyny, thus, is in charge of collecting revolutionary taxes
for the last three years. | In
an interview with the local media, Quiño did not deny his involvement in
the underground communist movement and admitted to the two charges which are pending
against him since 1998.
He
has been in Negros in hiding for the last two years after he escaped from Bohol.
However,
he has decided to surrender to the authorities so he can start a new life even
as he urged his comrades to stand down and swear to the government so that they
can pursue the peace process in harmonious manner.
