In line with the educational thrust to inculcate discipline among young students,
aside from giving them the venue for their cultural and musical talents, the Department
of Education (DepEd) - Division of Bohol signed memorandum with the Alturas Group
of Companies declaring co-sponsorship of this year's prestigious Alturas Drum
& Bugle Corps Showdown scheduled in November, this year.
Alturas PR & Marketing Manager, Loy M. Palapos, said Dr. Lorna E. Rances,
Ph.D., DepEd Schools Division Superintendent of Bohol, endorsed the Showdown and
signed a Division Memo for all schools district supervisors, school principals
and head teachers encouraging public schools to participate in the annual competition.
The co-sponsorship is specifically designed to help motivate participation from
any of the public schools in the Province of Bohol.

Showdown is just one of the many outreach programs of the Alturas Group of Companies
envisioned as a means to foster youth development. Its ultimate objective is to
fight drug addiction. Mr. Palapos said drug menace is touted to be one of the
biggest problems confronting the country today, affecting most particularly the
youth, and it is necessary to combat the onslaught on drug use and addiction.
There is a need to instill self-discipline in the hearts and minds of the young.
The best venue are the schools, through the formation of drum and bugle corps.
The activities of the Corps provide discipline, aside from being expression of
wisdom and talent. |
The Alturas
Drum & Bugle Corps Showdown has been the most anticipated annual competition
for the past 22 years. The local media calls it "the Greatest Show in Town"
for its entertainment value, aside from being programmed for youth development.
It is just one of the many highlights in the anniversary celebration of Alturas
Supermarket which falls every 24th day of November.
In recent years contingents from Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cagayan
de Oro City, General Santos City, Zamboanga del Norte, Biliran Province, and Macrohon,
