The
city government will address the problem on squatters settling near the newly
developed "sattelite city" where the Island City Mall and the City Central
Market and Integrated Bus Terminal are situated. | | City
Planning Officer Ed Macalandag is scheduled to issue an ultimatum on the squatters
who were earlier told that they have until Saturday this week to stay in their
dwellings.
|
Some
52 houses are erected
in the area, which the
city wants to be free from squatters.
Earlier,
police said that most of those elements victimizing passengers at the terminal
are residing in the area.
Of
the 52, 26 are occupying lots owned by the city government while the remaining
26 are staying in lots owned by a certain Jose Torralba, not the former mayor.
The
final word of Mayor Dan Lim is awaited on the fate of these squatters.
A
sub-committee on squatters headed by Macalandag will initiate court proceedings
to support move for a demolition order.
The
squatters are presently residing right across the back portion of the Integrated
Bus Terminal. This is the first major squatters problem being attended to by
the city government. |
