Our
former mentor at the then Divine Word College of Tagbilaran (now Holy Name University),
buddy (although we used to be nemesis while he was the Student Affairs Director
and we were leading the throng of blacklisted student activists in the campus)
and friend, Bartolome Auza (though he loves to be called Bartex now
that he is based in Weslaco, Texas, sent us an e-mail regarding the latest development
of the Boholanos in the US gearing up for the TBTK.
Here
it goes. This
is the real News for Orbiter Dictum. Me
and my wife just arrived in southernmost Texas (City of Weslaco where we reside)
from Houston after attending the 7th International BPHSN Alumni Grand Reunion
held on June 30 to July 2. June 30th was Guide Tours to NASA in the morning and
a Family Night was held in the evening; the attire was cowboy attire, Texas style.
July
1 was the Gala Night. Both affairs were held at Westin Oaks Hotel Consort Ballroom
in uptown Houston. July
2 was a Family Picnic at the George Bush Park. It was indeed a unique experience
for me because I met my former students in the Pre-Nursing Course way back in
1968. However,
age has taken toll in my memory of their faces and names. But one thing was so
inspiring: the majority seemed to recognize me, though some maybe hesitant because
they thought I was too old or too young to be really me. That is the glory of
being a teacher. Almost everyone agreed that this Alumni Homecoming was the most
attended ever of the six previous one. All
the BPHSN mentors led by Ms Betty Balatero were in attendance except for Ms. Araneta
and Ms Guidita Borja, the first principal of BPHSN. The
Guest Speaker of the affairs was Betty Veloso Garcia. She delivered the most inspiring
speech for all nurses that night and urged then to come for the TBTK two weeks
from now. The
organizers of the affair was led by Eva delos Santos (nee Eva Dinal. Didit Camangue,
Gloria Pabualan, Claire Arbilo, Fer Pucanan, Betty Abrau, and many more from Houston,
made the affair a great success. To
them, my utmost and honest congratulations. I hope I can attend the next Alumni
Reunion in Las Vegas two years from now.
