City
Mayor Dan Lim renewed his call for an all-out war on the proliferation of illegal
drugs and intensifies efforts against criminality while declaring a successful
campaign for the past two years during his message in last Monday's commemoration
of the 40th Charter Day. TWO-YEAR
RECORD. City Mayor Dan Lim renders his report onwhat has been done during
his first two years as chief executive, during the 40th Charter Day celebration
at the city hall last Monday. Two water tankers were turned over to the City Fire
Station by the Bureau of Fire Regional Office. Receiving the tankers were Provl
Fire Marshal Nonilo Acero, Vice Mayor Nuevas Montes, Hans Schoof and Mayor Lim.

| | To
emphasize the strong message, the mayor turned over 20 motorcycles to PC/Insp.
Jacinto Cesar for police visibility and mobility especially in the pursuit of
criminals.
The mayor said that security comes from the | thought
that measures have been taken to contain criminals and criminality. "Security
however does not come in free. We are giving our policemen all the support that
we can afford."The
city government will not only be providing motorcycles. The mayor guaranteed that
additional jeeps and other vehicles will be acquired as well as pistols and cellular
phones "so they can perform their functions better," Lim said.
In
addition, the mayor said barangay tanods have been mobilized not only to help
secure neighborhoods but also assist in traffic management as vehicular traffic
continues to congest the city.
Mayor
Lim added that barangay tanods would also be utilized by the police in deploying
checkpoints at designated spots to prevent and deal with criminal activities.
Although
a number of unsolved murder incidents continue to hound the city police, the mayor
stressed that the success in the past two years to curb the illegal drug trade
and criminality could also be attributed to the cooperation of city residents.
Lim
said that all gear and equipment provided to the city police would still be insufficient
in the fight against lawless elements.
"This
is the reason why we are calling on responsible citizens to join the efforts to
rid our neighborhoods of crime particularly illegal drugs by relaying information
to us on the presence of suspicious people and unusual activities," the mayor
urged.
Lim
credited P/CInsp. Cesar and city law enforcers for having neutralized the illegal
drug trade in the city and for solving most of the crimes committed including
snatchings and petty crimes.
During
the charter day celebration, the city government also received two 10-wheeler
super-tanker fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Region 7.
The
fire trucks were turned over together with firefighting gear and equipment with
an estimated worth of not less than P1 million donated by Gear-up Foundation through
city patron Hans Schoof.
The
mayor said the Tagbilaran fire station is ready "even before any major conflagration
can hit the city."
True
to his word of giving priority to public schoolchildren, the mayor once again
gave out more than 9,000 school uniforms including shoes, bags, notebooks and
other school supplies.
Lim
also made an assurance that the city will be installing two ceiling fans in each
of the 272 classrooms and construct as many comfort rooms in all city public schools
to provide a better learning atmosphere to the students.
In
return for these support the mayor said he expects quality results and ordered
the teachers to monitor the bottom 20% of their class to determine the dismal
performance and address these factors so the children can be competitive with
the rest of the class.
Starting
this week, the multiple intelligence method will start its implementation in all
of the city's day care centers after teachers have recently completed a two-week
training.
Mayor
Lim also made a commitment that scholarships will be provided for graduates of
the Cogon Night High School and the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture,
Forestry and Technology.
