| | In
the fine tradition of Filipino soldiery as exemplified by one of the great Filipino
war tacticians and strategists - Francisco Dagohoy, Bohol is proud to have produced
a number of general and flag officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
today.
Leading
the new breed of fine Boholano gentleman-officers is Rear Admiral Rogelio I. Calunsag,
AFP, the present Naval Inspector General, who hails from Loay, Bohol. He was recently
promoted to a two-star rank of Rear Admiral in February. He is a member of the
distinguished Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1974, graduating number
9 out of 114 cadets. With his excellent academic background and leadership skills,
RAdmiral Calunsag has been designated to various important positions in the Philippine
Navy and in the AFP general headquarters.
Another
Boholano achiever, Commodore Margarito "Boy" Sanchez Jr., AFP, is the
commander of the Naval Construction Brigade, based in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
He is from Inabanga, Bohol and was called to active duty with the Philippine Navy
in 1974. He got his star-rank as Commodore in 2002 and he is being projected to
be assigned to another position which will eventually qualify him to be promoted
to two-star rank of rear admiral shortly.
Commodore
Jeremias R. Lofranco, AFP, was appointed to star rank in September 2005. He is
from Tubigon, Bohol and holds the distinction of being a member of the rare breed
of Philippine Navy pilots. Commodore Lofranco was commissioned and called to active
duty with the Philippine Navy in 1974. He held various important positions in
the AFP, mostly specializing on Training and Education Program for the AFP personnel.
He is at present the commander of the Naval Forces West based in Palawan.
Brigadier
General Carlos B. Holganza, AFP, of the Philippine Army is the most recent addition
to the list of Boholano general and flag officers. He is from Tagbilaran City
and graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1978. A seasoned army officer,
he has had several frontline duties in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, having been
assigned with the Scout Rangers and the Special Forces during his younger days.

assignments in the AFP and in the Philippine Army Headquarters, in the Office
of the Vice President, and eventually in the Office of the President of the Philippines.
