Pardon
us for intruding again into a field we tread less because we are not a Quinito
Henson, Ed Pecson or a Ronnie Nathanielz but the recently-concluded NBA finals
once more showed that it pays to have the championship experience.
In
our previous columns, we pointed out that the Miami-Dallas hardcourt saga was
anybody's ballgame considering that both teams are first-timers in NBA finals.
However, we also stressed that only man-mountain Shaq O'Neal and coach Pat Riley
of the Miami Heat wear championship rings but these rings came from the Los Angeles
Lakers where O'Neal is best remembered for his tandem with Kobe Bryant. Riley
got his championship ring also while he was coaching for the Lakers during the
era of Magic Johnson before he moved to the New York Knicks.
And
so it came to pass that Miami took the crown at 4-2 winning all the games played
in their home court in a 2-3-2 format. As they say, experience is still the best
teacher.

Not
a few are asking us about the Tagbilaran City Pop Music Festival which we started
last year. We learned that the Sandugo executive committee decided to cancel
the pop music festival due to budgetary constraints. Fresh in our memory was the
statement of City Mayor Dan Neri Lim immediately after the 1st Tagbilaran City
Pop Musical Festival last year to make it a major event during the TBTK next month
by doubling the prizes at stake.
Well,
it could be a blessing in disguise to hold the pop music festival once every two
years. Next year, we shall see to it that the 2nd Tagbilaran City Pop Music Festival
will push through, with or without the blessings of the Sandugo executive committee,
this time with the major participation of the private musical groups in the province.

SP
UPDATES. One of the major pieces of legislation passed by the 9th Sangguniang
Panlunsod of Tagbilaran during the regular session last Wednesday presided over
by Vice-Mayor Nuevas T. Montes was the passage of a resolution devoting the P130
million loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to the road network
development surrounding the proposed "Big Bug" sports convention center
in Dampas area.
City
Councilor Archie Sarmiento also rendered a prepared report on our trip to Balocod
City the other week for the 6th Island Congress of the Philippine Councilors League.
Representatives
from the President's Bridge Program were also present to explain on the delivery
and the delayed removal of the steel trusses at the city port. Satisfied with
their explanation, we moved for the withdrawal of a resolution seeking an investigation
on the matter.
