| | The
Tagbilaran City Police has filed charges on Friday against Christopher Buslon
a suspect in the killing of Nelson Pacatang last April 30. PNP
Chief S/Insp. Jacinto Cesar | | Buslon
was nabbed by police authorities last May 30 in barangay Dusita, Sierra-Bullones
after receiving a tip from the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC)
in Cabawan. Buslon was reportedly sighted on several occasions driving a motorcycle
with the same description of that which was owned by murder victim Pacatang. The
suspect, after having been turned over to the Tagbilaran City police for investigation,
was later released from detention last May 31 even as he had disclosed having
witnessed one Roneo Busalanan, alias Aloy, as the one who stabbed Pacatang to
death.
According to city PNP chief S/Insp. Jacinto Cesar, they had to
release the suspect since they do not have corroborating evidence to justify the
detention of Buslon. Cesar also cited that in the absence of a complainant they
could not detain the suspect beyond 36 hours as they would be liable for arbitrary
detention. |
It
may be recalled that the lifeless body of Nelson Pacatang, 26, a habal-habal driver
residing in Dampas was found dumped with seven stab wounds in barangay Cabawan,
this city, on April 30, the citys vesper day. Police
had since been in hot pursuit of the perpetrators of said crime. Based
on police investigations, Buslon admitted having witnessed Busalanan stabbing
Pacatang seven times. Later he took the motorcycle of the victim with Busalanan
riding on the backseat. In
an interview with the Chronicle, SPO3 David Niluag said they had already filed
charges of murder and carnapping against Buslon last Friday. He added that the
suspect would be given a chance to submit his counter-affidavit in the preliminary
investigation with the city prosecutors office. However,
if Buslon refuses to appear in the preliminary investigation, the case will be
elevated to the proper court where he will be given notice for arraignment. SPO3
Niluag, however, bared that police operatives are closely monitoring the whereabouts
of Buslon. Should he refuse to appear in court, they could readily seize him upon
issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
