Fixers at LTO still rampant

The city-based Land Transportation Office (LTO) has failed to stop the presence of fixers victimizing land vehicle owners and applicants for drivers' licenses.

This was confirmed when a Chronicle-dyRD team visited the local LTO last Monday to conduct a three-day actual observation on the modus operandi of these fixers.

Adding to the festive mood of Sandugo Celebration in July, top-of-the-line products of Bohol and of neighboring provinces will be featured during the month-long Product Fairs and Expositions in strategic areas of the city.

As this year's celebration is coinciding with the 3rd Global Homecoming of Boholanos (Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan), the Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Inc. (BSFI) mapped out this shift from a province to a nation-wide scale to afford balikbayans with country's finest yields without having to leave the province.

 GMA to inaugurate road project June 5
Preparations shift to high gear as Bohol braces for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's visit on June 5 - her second of at least three this year.

 Gov. Erico Aumentado said President Arroyo will inaugurate the newly concreted Tagbilaran City to Lila section of the Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project Phase 2 (BCRIP 2), a billion-peso project undertaken by the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co., Ltd. of Korea with Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Japan through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

Just Before Deadline....
 Strong Indonesia quake kills, injures thousands
INDONESIA. A powerful earthquake rocked Indonesia's main island of Java yesterday, killing more than 2,000 people, injuring thousands more and causing mass destruction.

Many could not escape in time and were buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings or struck by flying rocks and debris as the quake devastated towns and villages across the south of the island.
Hospitals in the densely populated ancient city of Yogyakarta, located in the shadow of the simmering Mount Merapi volcano, were overflowing with casualties. Hundreds lay injured outside awaiting medical attention.
